Mikey Alter, a vivacious 13-year-old from Australia, donated his Bar Mitzvah money to the Pre-Atidim program at the Steinberg Residential School in Kfar Saba. Mikey, the son of longtime Friends of Atidim Ruth and Sam Alter, made the decision to donate to Pre- Atidim after learning how the program helps talented teens from vulnerable families in the periphery get a head start for a better future.
When Mikey came to Israel with his family to celebrate his Bar Mitzvah at the Western Wall, Steinberg’s Pre- Atidim pupils invited him to visit. They surprised him with a festive Bar Mitzvah lunch. His parents and his older siblings, Rachel, Brandon and Jeremy, all participated. The interaction between Mikey and the Israelis was warm and natural, and everyone sang and danced and had a wonderful time.
Mikey received a T-shirt from the Pre-Atidim pupils with the words, “Thank you Mikey” written on it. This day will remain with Mikey for a long time, as he continues on the path of his parents as a true friend of Israel and a socially involved and caring young man.
